Hints

  1. Angle C and angle x sit side by side on line BC, forming a straight line.
  2. Taking them out and lining them up: ∠C + x = 180°. That is the first equation.
  3. Now switch attention to the three angles inside the triangle.
  4. Cut those out and line them up too — also a straight line. 35° + 48° + ∠C = 180°. That is the second equation.
  5. Compare the two lines. Both are 180°, and both contain the same ∠C.
  6. Remove ∠C from both and the remainders must be equal: x = 35 + 48. This is the rule "an exterior angle equals the sum of the two non-adjacent interior angles".
