Area of the rhombus?

A normal-level "Area" problem.Any quadrilateral whose diagonals cross at right angles (rhombus, square, kite) obeys this same formula.

Hints

  1. A rhombus's area is decided by nothing but the lengths of its two diagonals.
  2. Think of the rectangle that fits snugly around it: 8 cm tall and 10 cm wide.
  3. The diagonals split the rhombus into four right triangles.
  4. Fold those four outwards and they fit the gaps perfectly. So the rhombus is exactly half the rectangle.
  5. So 8 × 10 ÷ 2 — "diagonal × diagonal ÷ 2".

Answer 40cm²
