Area of the trapezoid?
A normal-level "Area" problem.The "÷2" in the formula is there because flipping a second copy of the trapezoid makes a parallelogram.
Hints
- A trapezoid's area is decided by its two parallel sides (the top and bottom) and its height.
- Take a second identical trapezoid, turn it 180° and join it on.
- Look at what you get: opposite sides are parallel — a parallelogram.
- Its base is 10 + 6 = 16 cm, and its height is the same 8 cm as the trapezoid.
- The parallelogram's area is 16 × 8 = 128 cm² — which is two trapezoids.
- Two of them, so divide by 2 at the end. 128 ÷ 2
Answer 64cm²
